Lucifer In My Bed

Published January 31, 2015 MaggieRuch.com

Bloodied chin
Devil grin
Eyes
Like some elder god.
Morning star
Fallen son
Hovering over me
Perched like some silver-tongued serpent
Enthralling
Beguiling.

So many words half-spoken
Through tongue and cheek
While Osiris weighs in
Beneath this withered Sycamore
And dreamily I gaze
Into cold blue
Tipping the scales
In your favor.

Looming,
Hovering,
Like some great raptor
Poised to strike.
Cold steel in warm eyes
Steady
Unflinching.

We are
Conservative momentum
Like some ancient meditation
In motion-
Entropy’s cousin.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s
And all the sappy old movies
(You think I’m falling in love with you?)
Who can cling to a ramblin’ rose?

Buddha ears
Whipped cream vodka and orange juice
Blue steel and endless laughter
Betting on the Beatles
Beach Boys won
(Or did I?)

Some random encounter months ago
Forgot that we forgot each other.
Kismet.
Neighbors
Sharing a shore
Only thirty paces
And eternity between us.

Bloodied chin
Vampire grin
Abaddon
Angel of Light
Have mercy on this ramblin’ rose.
